Conversa Elevated

Transforming San Antonio's Hospitality Experience

We set out to create a unique lounge experience that would challenge pre-conceived notions about nightlife and hospitality expectations in San Antonio.  South Hickory Holdings led the formation of a new hospitality investment team, The Four Skillets Group. 

Through this investment vehicle, The Four Skillets Group launched our first hospitality experience, Conversa.  The two floor, 6,000+ square foot plus bar and lounge features high end cocktails and broadly Caribbean-themed cuisine set to an eclectic music playlist.

On and off-site events create avenues for Conversa to be a brand not confined by the physical lounge location.

For the Community. For the Culture

In 2018, we brought a group of business professionals and investors together to explore last mile delivery solutions for rural and small town areas in the Southeast.  The quick summary:  a solution would be pretty expensive and susceptible to competition from heavily capitalized multinational corporations like Amazon and Walmart.

(Initially) undeterred, the group surmised that any proposed solution must fly a bit under the radar while creating revenue generating operations to fund a regionally based logistics footprint. 

South Hickory Holdings created the Black Alum Gear brand based on those discussions.  The intent was to have a revenue generating e-commerce business that would fund the logistical footprint needed to satisfy the rural and small town delivery needs of the business… eventually expanding to support other businesses with a large customer base in those areas.  

We did not proceed with building out our last mile delivery concept.  However, the idea of Black Alum Gear as a community-minded brand that could benefit HBCU’s and their surrounding communities remained very much in play.

We launched the South Hickory Holdings owned and trademarked brand Black Alum Gear in December 2023.  Black Alum Gear offers high quality apparel and other products and services that pay homage to HBCU’s and their communities.  A portion of all profits will be donated directly to HBCUs and selected charities benefiting the citizens of those communities.
